TOKYO-MOL Logistics (Japan) Co., Ltd. (MLG; President: Shuhei Togo) today announced that, effective January 17, 2020, its subsidiary in Germany, MOL Logistics (Deutschland) GmbH (MLG Deutschland), has launched a joint venture with Hamburg-based Menzell & Döhle GmbH & Co. KG: MOL Döhle Worldwide Logistics GmbH (MDWL). The joint venture will engage in sea freight forwarding service mainly, and go into full operation in March. MLG Deutschland is the majority shareholder of the joint venture.

The MOL Logistics Group operates through a global network of 126 subsidiaries and offices in 26 countries worldwide and offers a full lineup of total logistics and international air and sea freight forwarding services. Menzell & Döhle is affiliated with the Döhle Group, which provides a range of maritime industry services in Germany. Through its base in Hamburg, a major hub for the sea freight business, Menzell & Döhle offers shipping agency, forwarding, global transport, and logistics services.

Drawing upon the synergy of both partner companies, MDWL will enhance their overall sea freight business in Germany. In particular, the partners expect to increase non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) container handling volume by transferring the MLG Hamburg Branch’s sea freight business and all related personnel to MDWL. Creation of the joint venture will also improve coverage of inland nations of Europe including Eastern Europe and Russia, using Hamburg as a starting point to meet customers’ needs for intermodal transport.

After transferring its sea freight-related business to MDWL, MLG Deutschland and its other main offices and branches (Dusseldorf Headquarters, Frankfurt Branch, Munich Branch) will engage mainly in air and land freight businesses. MDWL will respond to all inquiries, which are conventionally accepted through the MLG Hamburg Branch.
