MOL Logistics Co., Ltd.
TOKYO—MOL Logistics Japan Co., Ltd. (MLG; President & CEO: Osamu Sakurada) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Japan Airlines Corporation (JAL; President and CEO: Mitsuko Tottori; Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through participation in the “JAL Corporate SAF Program,” starting this month.
SAF is made primarily from biomass, waste cooking oil, and exhaust gas, and is considered a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. This next-generation fuel is expected to reduce net CO2 emissions by 60%-80% compared to conventional petroleum-derived jet fuel, and is expected to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality.
JAL, one of MLG’s major business partners, has mapped out the “JAL Corporate SAF program” to demonstrate a series of processes from SAF procurement to issuance of CO₂ emission reduction certificates, and MLG agrees with the intent of the program and has decided to participate in it. This program is one of JAL’s initiatives to promote the use of SAFs in cooperation with companies and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
“As part of the MOL Group that focuses on low- and de-carbonization, we seek to offer services with a keen awareness of the need to reduce our environmental impact,” MLG states in its corporate mission. In line with the MOL Group Environmental Policy Statement (Note 1) and Environmental Vision 2.2 (Note 2), MLG, as a multi-modal transport group that supports the worldwide economic infrastructure, is committed to protecting the health of our marine/global environment and this is a top priority in all phases of its business activities.
By participating in this program, MLG will pursue the creation of more SAF demand and promote environmentally friendly green logistics, and, in cooperation with JAL, contribute to maintaining and developing a sustainable society while preventing environmental destruction.
